Four new Vacheron Constantin Overseas watches, all with green dials, plus a titanium Overseas tourbillon watch



New additions to the brand's sports collection

At Watches & Wonders 2024, we got to see new additions to Vacheron Constantin's popular Overseas collection. This new one-piece bracelet sports watch is available in a rose gold case with a green dial, and a tourbillon watch with a full titanium case and blue dial.

The new green dials are available in four Overseas models. These include a 41mm automatic, a 42.5mm chronograph, a 41mm dual time zone model, and a 35mm automatic with a diamond-set bezel. In addition, there is a titanium tourbillon watch, bringing the total number of new Vacheron Constantin Overseas watches to five. Let's take a closer look!

Vacheron Constantin Overseas 101 The history of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas collection dates back to the mid-1970s. At the time, many high-end Swiss watchmakers launched sports watches with integrated bracelets, and Vacheron Constantin was no exception. The brand officially entered this field with the Royal Chronometer 2215 in 1975/76. However, the 222, designed by Jörg Hysek and released in 1977 to commemorate Vacheron Constantin's 222nd anniversary, laid the foundation for the modern Overseas collection. Design elements such as the fluted bezel and tonneau-shaped case can still be seen in current Overseas models. Later models in the collection also include the 333 and the Phidias.

It wasn't until 1996 that the original 222 achieved the spirit we know and love today. Vacheron Constantin launched the Overseas collection, whose iconic serrated bezel is a stylized interpretation of the original fluted bezel. In 2004, the series underwent a major overhaul, one significant improvement being the addition of a bracelet inspired by the Maltese cross.

Finally, in 2016, the current Overseas watch was launched. The design was refined and simplified, with the in-house movement clearly visible through sapphire crystal. The bracelet was changed to interchangeable, and all Overseas models bear the prestigious Geneva Seal. Subsequently, at Watches and Wonders 2022, the 222 movement returned alongside the Overseas, but only in a full gold version.

First, we welcome four new watches, all featuring green sunburst dials, a first for the Overseas series. However, with a hint of ambiguity, this combination of green and rose gold isn't entirely unexpected. We saw this color scheme back in 2021 on the Traditionnelle Tourbillon watch, exclusive to the Chinese market. Another Traditionnelle watch—the small seconds watch—also adopted the same color scheme last year.

Although this is a completely new color scheme for the Overseas collection, Vacheron Constantin has applied it to four watches, demonstrating its emphasis on this color. The existing Overseas automatic watch, dual time zone watch, chronograph watch, and 35mm diamond-set automatic watch all feature this new color scheme.

Titanium Overseas Tourbillon
The fifth watch in the collection abandons the previous warm green and rose gold color scheme, opting instead for cool titanium and blue. This is not the first time we have seen titanium in the Overseas collection; the previously acclaimed limited edition Everest watch used this material. This combination of titanium and the 2160 tourbillon movement has also appeared before, but then presented in a skeletonized design.

At this year's Watches & Wonders exhibition, we saw a titanium tourbillon Overseas watch with a blue sunburst dial. Vacheron Constantin calls its blue dial a signature feature of the Overseas collection, and I agree. The blue dial of the Tourbillon Overseas watch is welcoming and easy to understand.

The blue dial stands out against the deep, Grade 5 titanium case, which is 42.5 mm in diameter and 10.39 mm thick. The circular bezel beneath the serrated bezel is sandblasted, echoing the material's practicality. Therefore, the delicate and refined tourbillon movement stands out against this backdrop. This watch is water-resistant to 50 meters, slightly less than the 150 meters of other models. This is likely due to the watch's overall slim profile, housing a movement only 5.65 mm thick.

First Impressions Let's start with the green model with the pink gold dial. To be honest, I fell in love with it at first sight. I think Vacheron Constantin's green is perfect, and the combination with gold is simply breathtaking. In the press release, Vacheron Constantin described the green as a "rich green," but the official release seemed to have toned it down. This was perhaps a wise move, as I find the green understated and elegant without being ostentatious. In addition to the gold bracelet, these watches also feature green leather and rubber quick-release straps. Again, this combination is simply stunning. I wish I could bring this dual time zone watch home every day. Its subtle red accents further enhance its overall sophistication.

The titanium tourbillon watch is perhaps even more impressive. However, I feel it doesn't quite fit the concept as well as its predecessors. The Mount Everest series focuses more on the practicality of titanium, while the skeletonized tourbillon emphasizes the characteristics of haute horlogerie. This blue-dial version seems to have a somewhat ambiguous positioning. But then again, buying a watch at this price point is often based on love at first sight, rather than a conceptual fit. And this watch certainly has many commendable aspects.
